Today, the US Department of Commerce limits the contents of the "root.zone" by only allowing certain strings like "com, org, net, edu, mil, gov, int, arpa" and ISO defined "uk,fr,dk, it,no,ie" to be published by NSI. Adding other TLDs like "art, cam, media, politics, sucks" is a simple matter of adding some lines of text data to the root.zone file, a mundane administrative task which has mushroomed into a global political issue of exaggerated proportions.
